Sequoia Capital India Backs AI-Powered Agricultural Robotics Startup with $200M

AgriBot, a Bengaluru-based agricultural technology startup, has raised $200 million in Series C funding led by Sequoia Capital India. The company develops autonomous farming robots that use computer vision and AI to optimize crop management, promising to boost yields by 40% while dramatically reducing water and pesticide usage.

The funding will accelerate deployment of AgriBot's autonomous platforms across India's vast agricultural landscape. The company currently operates in over 500 farms across Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Punjab, managing more than 100,000 acres of farmland.

The robots perform multiple functions including precision planting, targeted pest control, soil analysis, and harvest optimization. Using multispectral imaging and machine learning, they can identify crop diseases before visible symptoms appear, enabling early intervention that significantly reduces crop losses.

CEO Rajesh Kumar explained the impact: "Indian agriculture feeds 1.4 billion people but faces challenges of water scarcity, labor shortages, and climate change. Our technology helps farmers produce more food with fewer resources, ensuring food security for future generations."

The company's subscription model makes the technology accessible to smallholder farmers, who comprise 86% of Indian agricultural operations. Monthly fees start at approximately $50 per acre, with financing options available through partner microfinance institutions.

AgriBot plans to expand into Southeast Asia and East Africa within the next 18 months, addressing similar agricultural challenges in these regions.
